I am not from VA. From Jonesborough, TN. We just love riding the VA Highlands, especially, a fall ride. Always stay at Hungry Horse East, formerly Hungry Horse Ranch. Beautiful campground, quiet, great stalls! Wonderful access to Highlands trails.

Dusty - this is why my horses are barefoot. The following video shows a hoof where the frog touches the ground and absorbs impact and then when a shoe is added that stops the frog from making contact. A shoe will also stop the hoof wall from flexing as it is meant to do. There is some blood...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df1w7dUoATM&feature=PlayList&p=27A37932A7BEC602&index=4
We have a very good barefoot trimmer in our area - Joe Amelang, cost is $35 but don't have shoes falling off to be reset. I do every 6 weels.

I'm looking for a saddle for a friend's mule but I'm gonna need one myself in a year or so. I bought my first mule ever, she was 6 months when I got her. She is now 2 years old.But I have found out they are a lot different from horses,in a lot of ways.I love my mule and want to make sure I get the right saddle, mules don't respond well to pain. They have a straighter back than a horse ,some people do use horse saddles, but I'm gonna get one with a mule tree in it.I don't want to give her an excuse to act up,by an ill fitting saddle!!!!HA-HA!!! So thanks again, I do appreciate that you commented,Audrey

Dusty, I have a Tennessean saddle for my walker. I always thought a Tennessean was for a more narrow whithered horse.I think she wants a mule tree ,mule saddle to better fit a straight back. Thanks for your comment, but I'm not sure that saddle will work.Audrey

Hey Dusty - The ride was great-Percy Warner is one of my favorites. It was cool and shady and lots of fun. We'll have to plan a ride there soon. Jeannie C.

I am planning on going - used to ride all the time at Percy Warner - love it there. I will be taking my Walking pony, Watermelon Willie, who has never been on a trail ride so it should be an interesting day. Is anyone going from this area-it would be nice to have someone to follow along with. See you there!

Dusty, I just looked at your pics and love them. Especially the one with your horse in the living room. My Dad did that to my Mom with my first horse and me riding him! You will love our group. My neighbor and one of our riding friends is from Indiana, but you have no idea yet how great our trails are. We ride weekly depending on the weather. We are in Maury Co. and have several great areas close by. We may ride Sat depending on the rain.
Blessings, Linda

Hi Dusty, about half the group rider quarter horses and go slow. But, even with us on walkers it is usually a medium pace. We may move out a little now and then but we are not all out. We try to keep it safe for a variety of riders and styles.
Blessings, Linda

Hi Dusty. I'm not sure how far they are planning on riding at the Trace. The only thing I will tell you is the trails , depending on which part you are riding on, can be narrow, rocky and very muddy. This is mainly if you head out from the Garrison staging area. Pwhat will make the call if they are to cancel closer to the date. We will post it as soon as the decision is made
