Hello everyone. I went on the Primm Springs ride on Saturday and had a very good time. We met some really nice people and new friends. On this ride we stopped for lunch very near the Dorton Gang's hideout. I think we need to have Mike Murphy enlighten all about his association with the notorious "Dorton Gang". And I warn you to realize you will be hearing from the leader of this outlaw bunch when Mike responds.

Well, I had no idea I was a member of a 'Gang'! I have to say it is great, though. Two years ago I had a horse, no trailer, no one to ride with, and no Idea of where to ride locally. Now...thanks to Mike and the Dorton Gang, I have a trailer, another horse, a husband to ride with me, a group of friends to ride with (The S.H.O.T. club) and more places to ride than I can shake a stick at!! Whooohooo! I am living the dream!! Thanks Mike and the Gang, for this website that has so improved my riding fun!

The Dorton Gang was forged in 2005 when four rowdy cowboys named PatMan, Roy Rogers, musGrave Digger and Mad Dog met on the backwoods trails in eastern Tennessee. During their 3 day, 70 mile ride they realized that they all shared a passion for horses, storytelling and extreme trail riding. Since then they have caused havoc on trails all across the state of Tennessee riding by day and night. Their rides are legendary; it is said that they were the first to mutter these words, “what happens on the trail, stays on the trail”. After a long day’s ride they can be found with a guitar singing outlaw cowboy songs around an open campfire. The bond they created has never been matched although they’ve been joined on occasion by amiable riders like Red Eye and Law Man. As the rides continued and the posse increased in size it became increasingly difficult to get everybody together in one place, as a result the Tennessee Trail Riders website was created to overcome the limitations of telephones and email. Yes, this website was created to channel the passions and continue the camaraderie of four men but as word spread across the land, more people wanted to join in, hence it has grown into a posse of over 1,300 people from all over the United States. We’re still ridin’ the trails, tellin’ the stories and livin’ like outlaws, well kinda. The gang name was adopted out of admiration for a middle Tennessee family who’s ancestry goes back to the original cowboys, living proud, skilled handlers of horses and loving this great state of Tennessee! Cheers and happy trails, Dorton Gang
