First, let me say that if you have a horse that is overweight then he is predisposed to a bout of laminitis. The Signs: The first sign you will notice is your horse is in pain and may lay down, walk slowly or stand with his hind…

CHA Certification

Clinic Instructors Fred Bruce and Jane Olsen welcomed Matthew and Christen at Cohutta Springs. Together with 9 other instructor candidates they began their clinic with a riding evaluation. Matthew and Christen both received almost top rank. Then came the written test on horse safety, health, and theory. Again, both passed with flying colors. Now that the clinic instructors were aware of everyone’s riding abilities, it was time to begin the week’s worth of instructing evaluations.

Training Belle

On April 1st, Zippo Belle Bars, Belle turned two years old. That meant baby time was over and its time to start learning to be a “big horse.” Belle already had good ground manners, stood well for the farrier, and has already been exposed to the wash stall bath. So, it was time to hit the round pen. The first day was her longest day. It was hard for Belle in the beginning because she has some separation anxiety we she leaves her mom and pasture mate (they have never had to be separated). But… Continue

Federal Recreation Trail Program About to Expire, Need Help to Re-Authorize

The American Horse Council (AHC), in conjunction with a broad coalition of recreation trail users is requesting that Congress re-authorize the Recreation Trail Program (RTP) and increase funding for the program.

The RTP, which was last re-authorized in 2005 funds projects consisting of construction, maintenance and restoration of trails and trail-related facilities as well as the acquisition of easements or property for trails. Although each state manages its own program, 30% of RTP… Continue

Spring is here and the foals are coming!!!! =D

Hello!

I haven't been on for a long time, but it's because I haven't found any time! I have great news to share with you all! Raven, the black horse on my page, has had a little filly. She was born Saturday April 18th and her name is Lilly. I've got some pics of her and the mommy on photobucket.com when she was about 2 hours old. Now at 4 weeks old she is already half as tall as Raven; who is 14hh! She leads (kind of) and we can pick up all of her feet. I'll tell you more about it… Continue

America's Trail Ride Association

I'm not for sure of the website address, but this is a great association that rides together several times a year. This was a first for me, invited by Richa Lemmonds from Alabama. This particular ride was this past weekend (the rainy one!) but we still had a good time. It is quite a haul from Woodbury, but not for you folks near Lewisburg or Columbia. It's called Seven Springs Ranch in Tuscumbia, Alabama. The ATRA just google it) hosts several rides during the year and all the folks are just… Continue
