Elmer Bandit dead at age 38

Why was this old horse left out in the pasture to freeze in the cold? He was a champion trail horse that logged many thousands of miles. He was unable to rise after being found in his pasture suffering from hypothermia and was euthanized. I don't get it. Wouldn't you have a horse like this at that age in a barn blanketed and protected from the cold? I don't get it.

Saddle Bags

What is a good source for saddle bags and what brands and styles are the best?

Horse trailers

I need to know a good source for purchasing a new aluminum 2 horse 7' bumper pull or a really good used one. I see alot of people use stock trailers.

Training

Does anybody out there besides Mike Murphy practice the Clinton Anderson training methods, the one rein stop saves me on a regular basis.

Treeless saddles

I have switched over to the Bob Marshall treeless saddle and I love it. Does anybody out there ride in one? They are lightweight, 17 pounds and it fits my horse very well. There are some cheap knock-offs out there (Hilason) but the quality is not good or the fit. Robin.

hi Robin, yeah the horses in my pictures are gypsy vanners. They had a show here this weekend. I had a blast riding them.

Robin thank you for your comments. It is comforting to know others understand the huge feeling of loss. I have an 18 year old Thorobred, Angel, who I have had since she came off Finger Lakes Race Track when she was 5. She was the first horse I ever had that was my own. All my horses mean a great deal to me and have taught me life's most important lessons. We are very blessed to have them in our lives. Happy Trails to you. Denise

That is my friend Lauren's horse. I put all my inexperieced riders on him. I didn't get the fenders on my saddle because I can move my legs more freely and can feel my horses' sides better. Yes, go to the Skito site and they can make you a custom pad also. The beauty of these products is that you can order whatever you want.

Hi, go to sportssaddle.com or call for a catalog 270-988-2684. They come in all prices from about $900 to $1600 and they custom make them or you can buy them off the rack. I paid $1300 and mine was beautiful, all tooled to my specs with conchos, saddle strings, back cinch and a matching breastcollar. They have trail, endurance and barrel saddles .Go to the website and check it out. They are always advertised in the Trail Rider magazine.

Amen, that's were I meet with Him the best! Read my poem, New Mexico, it is an older post. I have the blessing of friends who are retired with a place just outside Ruidoso. It is an incredible area! Have a Blessed New Year with many awesome trail rides.

Ya, I think he trusts me!! He will go ANYWHERE I point him. I would not trade him for all the money in the world. There is nothing like a good horse.

Cheers back to ya. Hopefully, one of these days we'll be toasting for real at the end of a long trail ride.

Happy trails,
Mike
