The rides at Big South Fork and the rides with my kids
Tell us something about you, anything.
Love to play with horses. Horses have interesting personalities.
Like people, they seem to enjoy attention, avoid unnecesary work, and want to get all they can....LOL
I have a Classic Champagne mare named "Classie", a Gen's Major General gelding named "Cash", "Sierra", a golden champagnek, and a bay gelding named "Blk Jack".
Two of my sons participate in WW2 re-enactments and one of my horses has been used as a cavalry mount. That was fun!
I also do horse portraits in oil or pastel. See my photos. And if you would like one done, let me know and I will quote a reasonable price.
Please note your farm, ranch or business website address if you would like to.
I'm interested in how ground tying is taught. I have not seen any training videos on it. Please tell how you have done it, or where I might find information about it.
Hey Jean, I got an email from my friend Terry, who now has Sundown, He has ridden him twice in the mountians this summer and says he is doing well. He thinks he may be able to lead a packstring with him by this Falls hunting season. He packed him all season last year. I am glad he found a place where he has a daily job. That is exactly what he needed.
I worked Trigger yesterday and he did very well with just some small techniques. Could you send me an idea of how your training sessions went. Did you have sort of a routine you did with him? I would like to be consistant with what he was already learning and how. My e-mail is stephanie.tankersley@gmail.com. If its not too much trouble. I also was curious how much you actually got to ride him? I hadn't been on him in a couple of months and he seems very anxious about me riding him in the round pen. He is an absolutly wonderful horse. He just loves attention.
We found a lovely 14 hand palomino color haflinger mare for my boyfriends daughter. She is a great kids horse. I will have to post pics of her. She is absolutely a beautiful horse also. We get a lot of comments on her color.
No luck yet. But that is because I have moved him to Hendersonville where my boyfriends horse. They have a roundpen and had intentions to start working him several times a day, but none of us have gotten to do that because of all of the rain. I got on him about a month and half ago and he did some bunny hopping with me and I got scared. I had a bad experience looking for horses for my boyfriend with a horse we looked at for him that ran me into a low barn and tried to buck me off. I have got timid and I hate it. Not like me at all. I want to work Trigger in the round pen and then try again. Really work on ground work, etc and getting him on his thinking side of the brain. I 've seem my boyfriends horse become a wonderful trustful horse since he has been doing all of the Clinton Anderson stuff. I will get there again, just had a little bad experience. Not Triggers fault. But I'd love to hear your idea. We are planning on doing that training with the tarp with him. Walking over that.
Thanks for the lovely comment, Jean, but I am really not. I do know that with horses, ignorance can get you hurt or killed, so I do a lot of reading and comparing different training techniques. I have Direct TV and it has the RFD channel. The RFD channel has several horse related shows that I record. There are several trainers that have shows (like Clinton Anderson, Julie Goodnight, Pat Parelli, and others) that I watch to increase my knowledge. I just wish I could increase my riding skills by watching TV! I do hope to get to ride with you soon. Happy Trails!
Hi Jean!! So happy with Bridgett. She took the move wonderfully in stride. I'll be sure and bless you with pics when she foals. It's such a long wait........ Hope we meet on trails sometime.
Hi Jean, I am off tomorrow, but will make a copy and fax it to you on Friday. I really love this magazine...it has so many great articles and info about trail riding, plus many places that have trail riding facilities advertise in it. Happy trails
You don't know of anyone selling a kid bomb proof quarter horse or quarter/mix for our 10 yr old daughter. She is doing great on her lessons. It needs to be 14 to 15 hands high only for her. No vices either for her. We already looked at several that just are too much for her. She wants something like a paint or leopard appaloosa. Thought I'd ask.
