I have a retired TWH who turned 21 in September and a 4-year old I acquired this past Spring. I was a certified North American Riding for the Handicapped Association Certified Trainer and I operated a NARHA facility at my farm until about a year ago. I'm currently involved in the horse rescue from Cannon County. So sad. I can't believe people neglect their animals, withholding feed, water and medical attention. I am supporting making equine neglect a felony.

I did'nt know that about the strangles history!YUCK!!!! Did they ever find out if any of the 84 had strangles also? Do you have trails of your own to ride? That would be so nice to have your own trails to ride on!!! I would like it if when my husband retires we could buy a place that borders the Big South Fork!!!!! He has a few years to go yet!!! Have a safe trip if you go anywhere during the Holidays,Bye-Bye,Audrey
Thanks for the update on the horses, great to hear that they are doing better!!! Have you heard anything about whether the Dickson County Horse Auction is opening again? I've heard a rumor that they were gonna open, let me know If you hear anything about it!!! I go for the tack sale only. I've seen horses as bad as some of the 84 come through the sales, it is so sad to see!!!!! Anyways, keep in touch and let us know when ya'll might want to ride, Marie likes to ride nice and easy!!!! Her Phone # is:(615) 797-4238. Have a Merry Christmas!!!! Audrey
Hi, Audrey. I understand the back issue. We usually try to go in to help with the heavy mucking in the morning and then we can do light pickup during the day. I've been able to groom only five horses out of all the days we've been there--usually every other day we go. There are a lot of EARS volunteers, but most of their experience has been with dogs and cats; so don't feel you aren't needed. Some of the horses are beginning to feel better and can be challenging to lead out to the round pens. But it is so nice to get them out of their small stalls and into an area where you can walk them. There's probably 35 left and they are the weakest, or in need of meds.
Hello Betty, I have'nt gotten to help again with the horses, how are they all doing? After lifting all that hay and bedding, my back has been out. I feel better now ,but now they have enough volunteers and have'nt called us back. I do think about them often, and wish all the best for them. I would want to adopt one,but sometimes it's hard enough to take care of my own. Are you gonna adopt one? I'm sure they will make sure they go to good homes only!!!! Keep me in mind if you need a riding buddy ever, also my sister lives in Dickson, and she would like to ride as well. Take care and have a Merry Christmas,Audrey
I saw one other lady named Jackie ,that is on the TTR website, she's a sweet person,we also have rode together before. From what I could tell, the horses seemed nice. I did'nt really get to be with any horses ,We loaded and unloaded hay all day and then we emptied the trash cans. She said if I came back tomorrow, she would make sure I got cuddle time with the horses. I hate to admit it,but ,my back hurts a little from all the lifting. So I'm not pushing it,maybe next week I can help some more. I plan on going to the benefit ride Sunday and I don't want my back to keep me from it. It's a good feeling to help in any capacity. My sister fell today and jammed her hand,so she won't be able to help for awhile. When I got home I had to take care of my five equines, this day I appreciated them a little more!!!! It did touch my heart seeing these horses finally recieving the care they deserve,I hope their futures will be full of love and caring. I have loved horses forever, and forever will !!!!! Hope to see you again,Audrey
Betty, It was nice meeting you today and getting to welcome you to the Tennessee Trail Riders website in person. You will enjoy meeting other horse people, who share the same passion as you, find out about all the trails and get information on anything horse related. Welcome again and Happy Trails,Audrey Rody
good morning Betty, welcome to TTR...lots of great folks here, and always lots going on..as for rescue, OMG my son and I went to a farm, and I have seen "killer" horses in better shape...broke my heart! too many alternativies I don't think any horse, or animal should have to live like that...
