You may not have known him, but today was my time to say good bye to my long time trail partner Pegasus. He was a gift to me from above when I very much needed one and he carried me through some of the toughest times of my life and through some of God's most beautiful scenery. He was a "once in a life time" horse for me. I will miss him very much. I am grateful to have received an extra 20 months of health, making new memories with him after his diagnosis of probable leukemia when he was seen at UT in August of 2008. He defied the odds and I would have expected no less from his brave, wise soul and huge heart. I will miss him very much. I am grateful that I could give him the final gift of release today when he let me know that it was time to let him go, even though my heart is aching over my loss. My friend tells me that all our animal companions that pass over before us wait on the Rainbow Bridge for us until it is our time. If that is true, I know that he will be there to carry me over with great joy and without complaint just as he has done these many years no matter where I have asked him to go. Well done, my dear beloved Pegasus. very well done. May you fly even higher with your new wings. Happy trails to you until we meet again. You will be in my heart forever.
